VAGINAS YES! PENISES NO!
Campus Commissars Fight Phallic Foolery

Campus commissars have once again provided us with an inadvertent peek into the hidden agenda underlying their pose as defenders of "free speech," "artistic expression" and the like. While condoning Lesbian "art" featuring graphic and even illegal sex acts, Roger Williams University in Rhode Island has punished campus satirists for daring to poke fun at these eccentric entertainments, according to the National Review.

At the heart of the controversy is the Vagina Monologues, a critically-acclaimed play by Eve Ensler which, among other things, glorifies the seduction of a drunken underage girl by a 24-year-old Lesbian (the underage girl is variously played as a 13-year-old or a 16-year-old depending on the production). The play's performance has become an obligatory ritual during campus celebrations of V-Day — Vagina Day or Violence Against Women Day, as you prefer — a feminist revel meant to replace Valentine's Day.

This year, College Republicans at Roger Williams University decided to fight back. They staged P-Day — Penis Day — featuring the performance of a play called The Penis Monologues. Christina Hoff Sommers reports in the National Review:

"Two participating students, Monique Stuart and Andy Mainiero, have just received sharp letters of reprimand and have been placed on probation by the Office of Judicial Affairs. The costume of the P-Day `mascot' — a friendly looking `penis' named Testaclese, has been confiscated and is under lock and key in the office of the assistant dean of student affairs, John King." These guys should celebrate the penis in historical art, from Greek idols of Priapus to the black stone of the Kabaa.

Don't tell me penises are politically incorrect?

It is unfoprtunate that the left has lost it's sense of humour. Both plays properly handled no doubt could provide thought provoking enterntainment. It is alo unfortunate that the left choses to use borderline pedofilic representations.
I do believ however that the general tone of the debate needs raising. It might help ease the consant harping from both sides. Just a thought

Are penises politically incorrect? Of course. But you knew that, didn't you, Beamish? :) To Logan, raising the level of debate isn't necessary and would be ahistorical. You do know just how vicious and satirical the newspapers were to Jefferson, don't you? Or how about Andrew Jackson? The discourse has always been animated. If it were anything but, then there would be no "animating contest for freedom" but a bunch of slackjawed cookie-cutter clones batting around generalities (a la alphabet news). We've got 20 years of Dowd to make up for, and I don't think we should pull back when we're gaining ground. Three cheers for Testacles! *laughs*
